Gender Odyssey 2016

GoodMedizen at Gender Odyssey

The Gender Odyssey conference the first weekend of August felt like an oasis in the middle of Seattle. This marked the 15th year the Odyssey invited people from near and far to gather in a safe, supportive space. Participants brought a spirit of openness and authenticity, with the intent to share, learn, and support one another.

This was the first year GoodMedizen sponsored a booth at the conference. It was wonderful to experience first hand the way the 6th floor of the Convention Center transformed for a weekend. The conference welcomed individuals who identify with their cisgender, as transgender, non-binary gender, or any other identity. In addition individuals of all ages who are parents, partners, siblings, friends, or allies also participated. I talked with participants and vendors alike about the benefits of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, many who were unfamiliar with this holistic medicine.

In conversations, I welcomed the genuine curiosity about acupuncture, as well as the stories a few individuals shared about the benefit they have received from treatment and their great appreciation for their acupuncturist. As a practitioner, I rejoice in such stories and strong supportive relationships! Most questions revolved around anxiety, depression, sleep, and pain. I also spoke with several fellow holistic health practitioners curious about how acupuncture might complement their respective modality. Many of the practitioners and participants lived in different states and hoped to connect with acupuncturists in their area.

If you or someone you love is curious and would like to find out how acupuncture and Chinese medicine might support your healing journey, consider a complimentary consultation at GoodMedizen Acupuncture & Herbs.
